Founder, Managing Partner, and Chief Investment Officer

With more than 14 years of experience in discretionary and automated trading, Cavan developed and led several absolute return discretionary equity strategies. His key trading strategies are event-driven in nature, with short-term market and company specific catalysts, generally with short-term holding periods. Cavan’s career began in 2005 at Kershner Trading Group, a proprietary trading firm in Austin. Cavan earned his BBA in Finance from the University of Texas, McComb School of Business, in 2005.

Portfolio Manager

As a Portfolio Manager at Fifth Lane, RJ oversees a strategy focused on Global Mergers & Acquisitions as well as Event-Driven Special Situations. Before joining Fifth Lane, RJ was an Analyst and Jr. PM at Alpine Global. Prior to Alpine, RJ held positions as both Trader and Analyst at Sandler Capital and Zweig-DiMenna Associates. RJ earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Economics from Babson College in 2009.  In 2017, RJ earned the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). 

Portfolio Manager

As a Portfolio Manager at Fifth Lane, Jerry manages an event-driven & special situations equities portfolio with a focus on merger arbitrage and corporate events. Prior to joining Fifth Lane, he was an analyst at Verition where he helped manage an event-driven portfolio. Prior to Verition, Jerry was a Vice President at Harvest Partners in the Structured Capital Fund. He received a BBA in Finance from Baruch College.

Portfolio Manager

As a Portfolio Manager at Fifth Lane, Cade oversees multiple discretionary strategies that pursue high risk-return tradeoff generated through capitalizing on company specific corporate actions and events. Prior to joining Fifth Lane, Cade was a trader at Kershner Trading Group in Austin, TX where he trained directly under our Founder and Managing Partner, Cavan Copeland. Cade earned his BBA in Finance and Economics from Texas Tech University, Rawls College of Business.

Data Scientist, Systematic Strategies

With 18+ years of expertise researching and developing quantitative alpha generating and execution strategies, Chad is responsible for the development and deployment of Fifth Lane’s automated quantitative trading models. Prior to joining Fifth Lane, Chad held international roles with ITG (now Virtu Financial) and HSBC Plc where he built and developed quantitative platforms for portfolio products (Index, ETF, algorithmic trading) as well as consulting on topic related to global Equity Market Microstructure. Chad graduated from the University of Waterloo in 2003 with an Honours Degree in Economics, specializing in Econometrics.

Quantitative Analyst

As a Quantitative Analyst at Fifth Lane, Rahul develops automated strategies focused on finding systematic edge in equities. Before joining Fifth Lane, Rahul was a Quantitative Trader at IMC Trading. Before his time at IMC, Rahul held Quantitative Trading internships with Belvedere Trading and Kershner Trading Group. Rahul received a BS in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Texas.

Chief Operations / Compliance / Technology Officer

Justin is responsible for operations, compliance, and technology. Prior to joining Fifth Lane, Justin held various leadership roles in product management and software engineering in Silicon Valley where he worked across a variety of industries such as renewable energy (Sunrun $RUN), logistics (TradeLanes, seed series startup), healthcare (Jiff, acquired by CastLight $CSLT), and mobile productivity (CloudOn, acquired by DropBox $DBX). Prior to his time in Silicon Valley, Justin practiced corporate law in Austin, TX. Justin received his JD in law from George Washington University in Washington, DC in 2007 and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas Tech University in 2002 with a BBA in Management Information Systems.
