What is Fifth Lane?
- Fifth Lane Capital, LP is a Registered Investment Advisor in the State of Texas. We are 100% employee-owned and operated, so our #1 priority is always our clients' interests. Fifth Lane client relationships are based on integrity, transparency, and trust.
- Born in a conversation amongst two Austinites discussing rush hour traffic, we both confessed to using the “fifth lane” of the four lane highway (MO-PAC). This meant repeatedly using the exit lane to exit and then re-enter the highway until the desired destination. Following the herd is rarely the best option.
- In trading, using the "fifth lane" represents vision, leadership, and creativity. We use our own creativity and vision to seek out exceptional investment opportunities, resulting in exceptional results in a competitive marketplace. We believe in what we see, not what we are told, and we trust our leadership to find new ways to continually outperform in an ever changing market. In short, we don’t believe in re-inventing the wheel, we believe in picking the right lane.
Cavan Copeland, Founder and Managing Partner
- Mr. Copeland, born and raised in Texas, has over 17 years experience in discretionary and automated trading. He began his career in 2005 at Kershner Trading Group, a proprietary trading firm in Austin. Mr. Copeland developed and led several absolute return discretionary equity strategies. The key strategies are event-driven in nature, with short-term market and company specific catalysts, generally with short-term holding periods.
- Prior to joining Kershner, Mr. Copeland attended the University of Texas McComb’s School of Business, where he earned a BBA Degree in Finance in 2005.
